Virtual Postpartum Assessment after Baby Loss

A virtual online postpartum physiotherapy assessment that is sensitive to your loss.

This is the Postpartum Assessment after Baby Loss with Jenni Calcraft, founder of The PABL Project, for anyone who is not local to Liverpool, UK.

Pregnancy and delivery affect your body in many ways. After pregnancy many women experience weakness in their pelvic floor and abdominal muscles and a third of women still have a tummy gap eight weeks after full term delivery. These changes can impact your day-to-day life and your ability to exercise by causing problems such as back and pelvic pain, plus bladder, bowel and sexual health issues. They can also make subsequent pregnancies particularly challenging.

It is recommended that all women have a postnatal assessment at 6-8 weeks post-birth to address the physical effects of pregnancy and birth. Yet it is often forgotten that the body is just as postpartum after baby loss and that your body also needs and deserves this care and attention.

For this reason, The PABL Project Postpartum Assessment after Baby Loss has been created. This assessment considers your body and your grief, helping you to address physical changes and to reconnect emotionally with your body.

It was only when I came to The PABL Project that I began to see myself as not just a grieving parent but as a postpartum woman. Because my baby was gone, I had forgotten what my body had been through in carrying him almost to term, giving birth, expressing milk for him. All the physical and hormonal shifts that had taken place seemed so irrelevant that I had forgotten them entirely. Dedicating time to focus on my physical self was the first step to finding a way forward.
